Even though Moore's preference was for the more classically dull rhyme scheme, it turns out that Moore was not completely against the anapestic style. Not long before he read the Christmas poem to the children as his own, he had written an anapestic Santa poem for his young daughter. But this time he doesn't let the setup stay nice for very long. The screaming and crying must have been really getting on his nerves!
