Catharine Livingston marries Arthur Breese
A Mouse in Henry Livingston's House
Navigate

Six months after Henry's marriage, Henry's daughter Catharine married Arthur Breese, a young man who sailed across the Hudson River to court Catharine beneath the locust trees of Locust Grove.

He was graduated at Princeton, studied law with Elias Boudinot, and was admitted an attorney of the Supreme Court in August 1792. After marrying Catharine, he moved to Whitesboro NY and entered law practice with Catharine's uncle, Jonas Platt, who had been made Herkimer County Clerk in 1791. Arthur became Platt's Assistant County Clerk, an amazing position for someone with so bad a handwriting.
