Addressed as Major Henry Livingston after his service in the 3rd New York and until he was
made a Justice of the Peace, another political position, Henry was addressed as Judge Henry Livingston for the remainder of his life.
Even though Henry wasn't a lawyer, that wasn't a problem for New York State. There were books that gave the forms that needed to
be used, and advice for what to do in particular situations.
After that, much of what was needed was common sense.
Besides, with much of his family involved with the law, and many of them judges, themselves, he certainly didn't have to go far
for advice.
