medal. He was medalled again in 1877 and in 1879, and received the medal of honor in 1880 for "The Good Samaritan," a powerful picture which the Government purchased for the Luxembourg Museum. He painted religious subjects and profane subjects, allegories, mythological compositions, battle scenes, with an endless facility and felicity of touch.
