Dear Sir

How we marched, and how we sped and every circumstance of news Lt [James] Gregg will inform you with pleasure -- The General acquaints me that we must stay here for some time & then go in a body of men who he is giving to send with Cannon to xx Montreal, & tells us that probably Coll. Easton will command the party-- This circumstance is unpleasing to our officers as they have heard that Easton isa good deal of an old woman & has been xx on the parade at Ticonderoga by Col Arnold-- under such an officer they cannot serve with chearfullness-- We hope however the General will alter the appointment-- If you come with the whole Regiment you can bring our conveniences along with you.

Adieu,
H.L. Jun.

NOTE:
Colonel James Clinton was the brother of Governor George Clinton, and the father of Governor xx Clinton.
