BACKGROUND
What Beauties does Flora disclose
How sweetly smiles she upon Tweed
Yet Mary's still sweeter than those
Both nature and fancy exceed.

Not Dasie nor sweet blushing rose
Nor all the gay flowers of the field
Nor Tweed gently gadding thru them
Such beauty and pleasure does yield.

2
The warbler are heard in the grove
The Lineet the Lark and the Thrush
The blackbird and sweet loving dove
With musick enchant ev'ry bush

Come let us go forth to the mead
Let us see how the primroses spring
We'll lodge in some village on Tweed
And love where the feather'd folks sing
