HYMN 7. Second Part. S.M.
Faith. (cont.)

  1 It boasts of a celestial birth,
   And is the gift of God.
  2 Jesus it owns a King,
   An all-atoning Priest;
It claims no merit of its own,
   But finds it all in Christ.
  3 To him it leads the soul,
   When fill'd with deep distress;
Appropriates his precious blood,
   And trusts his righteousness.
  4 Since 'tis thy work alone,
   And that divinely free;
Lord, send the spirit of thy Son
   To work this faith in me.
  5 Faith must obey her Father's will,
   As well as trust his grace;

HYMN 7. Third Part. C.M.
A living faith.

  1 MISTAKEN souls! that dream of heav'n,
   And make their empty boast
Of inward joys, and sins forgiv'n,
   While they are slaves to lust.
  2 Vain are our fancies, airy flights,
   If faith be cold and dead:
None, but a living pow'r, unites
   To Christ the living head.
  3 'Tis faith, that changes all the heart;
   'Tis faith, that works by love;
That bids all sinful joys depart,
   And lifts the thoughts above.
  4 'Tis faith, that conquers earth and hell
   By a celestial pow'r:
This is the grace that shall prevail
   In the decisive hour.
  5 Faith must obey her Father's will,
   As well as trust his grace;

HYMN 7. Third Part. C.M.
A living faith. (cont.)

  5 A pard'ning God is jealous still
   For his own holiness.
  6 When from the curse he sets us free,
   He makes our natures clean;
Nor would he send his Son to be
   The minister of sin.
  7 His spirit purifies our frame,
   And seals our peace with God;
Jesus and his salvation came
   By water and by blood.

HYMN 7. Fourth Part. P.M.
A living faith.

  1    BEGONE unbelief,
   My Saviour is near;
   And for my relief
   Will surely appear:
By pray'r let me wrestle, and he will perform;
With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.
  2    Tho' dark be my way,
   Since he is my guide,
   'Tis mine to obey,
   'Tis his to provide:
Tho' cisterns be broken, and creatures all fail,
The word, he has spoken, shall surely prevail.
  3    His love, in time past,
   Forbids me to think
   He'll leave me at last,
   In trouble to sink:
Each sweet Ebenezer, I have in review,
Confirms his good pleasure to help me quite through.
  4    4 Determined to save,
   He watch'd o'er my path;
