It has been given out that the President has decided not to re-appoint Gov. Jenkins, of Oklahoma, who received his commission
from President McKinley last summer. There have been charges made against Jenkins at the White House to the effect that
his relations with certain contractors, who have been engaged in the construction of some public works, were not all that could
be desired. With characteristic fairness Mr. Roosevelt gave Mr. Jenkins an opportunity to defend himself against his
accusers but, as he has heard nothing from the Governor, he will probably appoint his successor at an early date.
I am told at the White House that the President has no intention of appointing Zach Mulhall, but it is rumored that the appointment
will go to a former Rough Rider.
