Outlaw Horses and Texas Steers to Be Shipped in for Occasion
Cedar Falls is to have a mammoth roundup June 13, 14 and 15. Wild west riders and ropers will compete in a three-day
tourney for a purse of $2,000 and world championship honors. The world's championship claim will be recognized because of
the two prizes which have been offered for riding and roping.
Homer S. Wilson, the only cowboy newspaper man in the United States, has been named as arena director.
Wilson placed letters before the business men backing the venture and stating that scores of cowboys and cowgirls
would like to compete for honors in a Cedar Falls roundup this summer.
Five judges will be named for the events. The judges will be picked from the following states: Oklahoma,
Texas, Montana, Wyoming and Oregon. Ed McCarty, manager of the Cheyenna Frontier Days, is to bring his group of professional
"busters" and a carload of outlaw horses. The Mulhall ranch in Oklahoma is to bring another group of boys and girls
seeking local money.
In addition to these groups there will be representatives from Des Moines, Kansas City, Minneapolis and Chicago. These men are
"busters" who have been breaking horses for the European war. Arrangements have been made to obtain two cars of long horn cattle
and wild horses for use during the roundup. These steers and wild horses will be used for roping, riding and bulldogging
contests.
In addition to the regular purse of $2,000, additional prizes will be given for special western events.
A purse of $1,000 will be given for a relay horse race.
Mr. Wilson announces that about 25 girls will be present to take part in the girls' riding contests, among whom will be
Lucille and Georgia Mulhall of Mulhall, Oklahoma. It is expected that the purse will draw in about 300 contestants.
