The Lucille Mulhall roundup and cowman's picnic, to be held at Bowen's Island, May 2-6, promises to be a big success,
judging from the interest taken i the affair, and the progress reported by those who are making the preliminary
arrangements. Cattlemen of this section of the state, realizing the desirability of such an event each year
to bring all the old-timers together, are proving enthusiastic boosters, and are working to round up the best riders
and worst horses to be found in Texas, to compete for the cash prizes offered. Several "notorious"
horses have already been secured, and it is said that every county within a radius of two hundred miles will be
well represented with spectators and actors. From Dimmet alone, 75 ranchmen and riders have
signified their intention of attending, and it is probable that this number will be increased before the date of the roundup.
A big ball is to be given on the evening of May 4, "Cowman's Day," at the Gunter Hotel. It is announced
and all the expert riders and ropers with the Mulhall outfit, those taking part in the various contests,
and all visiting cowmen, are to be invited. The dance will be an informal one, and the only restriction will be that all spurs
must be removed before entering the ballroom.
Percy Tyrrell, manager of the Gunter, and a committee of San Antonio business men, headed by W. H. Schweers, under whose
auspices the roundup and picnic are to be held, are making the arrangements for the ball. It will be given
under Mr. Tyrrell's supervision.
Arrangements are also being made for a banquet to be given in Miss Mulhall's honor, but no time will be set until
it is known what day will be most convenient for her.
