Manchu Temple
Daily Maroon - Dec 14, 1928

The dull brazen crash
Of a quivering bell
Throbs through the air--

Little flickering golden lights
In the velvet dusk--
The burnished copper glow
Of an altar lamp--
Gleaming steadily...in the dark--
The flaming, entreating jets of light
From jewelled offering.
A saffron figure
Writhes up the polish teak floor
Falling prostrate
Before a monstrous, scented God!

The brazen crash
Of a quivering bell
Dies from the air--
