The part of the story that was new was the information that "when he came to publish the same, with some of his other poems, he only made two slight changes in the lines as originally written by him." This deposition was important enough that Casmir Moore had Maria make two versions of the deposition, and he signed one. The timing of this deposition is interesting, since it appears immediately after the first New York City publication of the claim of Henry Livingston. Although the Moore family didn't appear fazed by the counter claim, they privately were. And there were those few changes in the text of the 1830 Troy Sentinel broadsheet, appearing to be the differences between that version and the version that Moore then published. There was just one little problem.
